The position on Brexit

The following order of priorities is my position on Brexit.

  1. A Labour-negotiated ‘soft Brexit’ deal that preserves jobs. It both respects the result of the referendum and softens the blow of leaving the EU. It would ideally be a gradual withdrawal via EFTA.
  2. A people’s vote in which I would campaign for Remain.
  3. A Tory-negotiated Brexit deal, for example one that Theresa May came back with.
  4. No-deal Brexit.

The key point is that it is possible to respect the result of the referendum and oppose both No Deal and any deals negotiated by the Tories. As we have seen in my previous post, the fact we voted to jump off a plane does not mean we should do so without a parachute. If there is an adequate parachute, we jump. If there isn’t one, we stay.
